Micronesia on Friday recognized Kosovo's independence, Pristina announced, according to a Beta news agency report. "At about 20:00 hours last night, Micronesia's permanent representative to UN Jem Lipve told Kosovo's foreign Minister Skender Hiseni that Micronesia had recognized the republic of Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state," a statement said. Micronesia recognizes Kosovo Beta adds that Kosovo has so far been recognized by 53 countries, among them most EU and NATO members. Kosovo Albanians unilaterally declared independence on Feb. 17 this year. Serbia rejected this proclamation as illegal.
