The OSCE is proud of Serbia, because its mission here is considered to be the most successful, Goran Svilanovic says. The former Yugoslav FM took over as the Vienna-based organization's economy and environment coordinator today. "OSCE proud of Serbia", says official Svilanovic will coordinate the work of the so-called dimension for economy and environment. The other two are political-security and the so-called human dimension. "In the dimension I'm taking over," Svilanovic was quoted as saying, "everything that is going on around us – the climate change, the air and water pollution, soil erosion, is seen in the context of the security of a concrete state and the EU." "In my work, I will rely on the help of the OSCE mission. There are 19 of them and they are mostly engaged in the four sub-regions: South Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Southern Caucasus, and the Black Sea region,” Svilanovic told the Belgrade daily Politika. "I can say one nice thing: the OSCE is proud of Serbia, since its mission in Serbia is considered to be not one of, but the most successful OSCE mission,” he said. "The OSCE mission in Serbia has all along been engaged to improve issues such as tackling corruption, improvement of legislature, focusing on reforestation and water quality. The mission has financed the work on laws which are a part of the road we must travel on our way to the EU. The mission helped exactly in those issues that are in Serbia’s best interest,” he said.
