UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is expected to submit his UNMIK reconfiguration report at the start of next week, Javier Solana says. The EU foreign policy chief and Ban met in New York on Friday to discuss this and Brussels' EULEX mission deployment in Kosovo. "He [Ban] has all the information and it is up to him to decide. As far as we're concerned, we'll continue to help and do all we can. I really hope that the mission will deploy in the first week of December, but for that to happen, the secretary-general's report must be submitted first," Solana said. Belgrade said earlier it had reached an agreement over the so-called six-point UNMIK reconfiguration plan with the UN, but the Kosovo Albanian leadership rejected this deal. International officials in Brussels told Beta news agency yesterday that talks are being expedited between the U.S., UN and the EU in order for Pristina to "in some form" accept the Ban six-point formula for EULEX deployment. Earlier, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Daniel Fried, who was in Pristina last week, said after consultation with NATO officials and those from Solana's office, that "all sides" are looking for an agreement to allow UNMIK's activities and EULEX's deployment.
