War crimes accused Bora Trbojevic has denied accusations of torturing, beating and murdering civilians in the municipality of Grubisno Polje in Croatia in 1991. Trbojevic repeated at his trial that he did not commit any crimes, but that he knows who participated in the beatings, torture and murder of civilians. Grubisno Polje war crimes trial continues The accused told the Belgrade District Court’s War Crimes Chamber that Slobodan Peunic had told him, after being questioned in court, that Milivoje Cakmak and Zarko Vukovic had participated in the attack on Croat civilians in the villages of Velika Peratovica and Topolvica. The defendant said that his half-sister told him that a certain Bora Lekic had boasted that he and Boza Trbojevic had murdered civilians in a school in Velika Peratovica. Bora Trbojevic, a former member of the Bilogorski Division attached to the Velika Peratovica territorial defense, is accused of participating in an attack on the Croat population, taking civilians hostage, and of murdering five civilians. The events in Topolovica and Velika Peratovica that Trbojevic is indicted for, were also the subject of a trial before the Bjelovar District Court in 1993, where he was sentenced to 20 years in absentia. Trbojevic pleaded not guilty to all the counts of the indictment at the beginning of the trial on September 26. This case is one of 12 cases that the Croatian prosecution has forwarded to Serbia’s war crimes prosecution office, based on the Agreement on Cooperation and Prosecution of War Crimes Suspects.
