Pieter Feith says that EC's Western Balkans Director Pierre Mirrel's statement on accepting Belgrade's conditions, "is not the Union's position". Mirrel said on Friday in Belgrade that Brussels accepts the conditions for the mission's deployment, including a UN SC approval, "status-neutral" character, and that "it will not be connected to the Ahtisaari plan". Sides deny striking EULEX deal All this, Mirrel explained, so that EULEX can benefit all residents of Kosovo. "Comments that are attributed to a European Commission official are not the EU's official position," a statement issued today in Pristina by Feith, EU's representative in Kosovo. If it goes through, this deal with Belgrade would enable the EU mission to deploy after almost a year of unsuccessful attempts. Yesterday, President Boris Tadic said that Serbia is discussing the deployment of EULEX in Kosovo "solely with United Nations officials", not with the representatives of the European Union. "These talks are serious. Serbia is not giving up its principles, it is guarding its own integrity and the preservation of Serbia's integrity is the main principle of our policy, regardless of all challenges linked to the determination of the future status of Kosovo and Metohija, and only such a policy contributes to the stability of the entire region," Tadic told reporters.
