IMF representatives are beginning talks with officials in Belgrade on a new arrangement with Serbia and on economic policy for 2009. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission, led by Albert Jagger, will be in Serbia until November 9, and will meet with government officials, National Bank representatives and officials from other institutions. IMF, NBS, govt. reps meet for talks The mission is set to talk to the officials about the macro-economic situation in Serbia and projected economic policy for 2009, a National Bank of Serbia statement reads. A new form of arrangement between Serbia and the IMF will also be discussed. IMF representatives also insist the government shelves plans to increase pensions to 70 percent of the average salary. Indeed, it seems that the government has already taken this decision after Deputy Prime Minister Jovan Krkobabic announced that pensioners may have to wait until 2010 for the promised increases. The statement triggered an angry reaction in parliament, where opposition MPs accused Krkobabic of breaking promises he had given during the election campaign.
