The Constitutional Court of Serbia will shift focus from normative control of law to human rights and freedoms protection, Court President Bosa Nenadić says.

The Constitutional Court of Serbia will shift focus from normative control of law to human rights and freedoms protection, Court President Bosa Nenadic says. She added in a statement on Monday that thus, the court will "slowly turn into the court of ordinary people”. Constitutional becomes “ordinary people” court Underscoring that the Constitutional Court has received over 1,500 constitutional complaints since last April, Nenadic said that it makes sure freedoms and rights guaranteed not only by the constitution, but also by international conventions, are not violated by individual acts or activities of the state. At the opening of a seminar on the European Human Rights Convention, Nenadic recalled that the Constitutional Court had been given new competencies under the new highest legal act adopted in 2006, giving it powers to decide on protection of human rights and freedoms in specific constitutional and legal disputes.
