South-East Europe should capitalize on its geographic position to transfer energy, says the secretary general of the Regional Cooperation Council. South-East European (SEE) governments should devise intra-state projects in the energy sector to enhance the energy infrastructural network within the region, Hido Biscevic said. S-E Europe and energy potential "That would be the best way to take advantage of the geo-economical potential for energy source transfer routes via South-East towards Western Europe,” he told the final day of the European Energy Forum in Prague. The Regional Council for Cooperation is the successor to the South-East Europe Stability Pact. Biscevic informed the Forum of the Council’s networking with the governments of South-East European countries and the European Commission, for creating intra-state projects, especially in the energy sector. That will be financed through the EU’s Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA). The participants also discussed the possible further impact of the current financial crisis on the energy sector, including in South Eastern Europe. They emphasized the need for a stronger united response to energy suppliers, including the possibility of establishing a regional energy stock exchange. The Forum, organized by the upcoming Czech Republic EU Presidency and the Yes for Europe (Ano pro Evropu) NGO, brought together senior government officials and experts from the energy industry.
