The Hague prosecution has launched proceedings against Vojislav Seselj for contempt of court, after he revealed the names of protected witnesses in his book. The prosecution claims that Seselj published the identities of the witnesses in a book titled “The Hrtkovci Affair”, thus intimidating and upsetting the people in question. The fact that someone who follows the case and who is smart can work out who the witnesses are, that’s none of my concern,” he said. The Serb Radical Party (SRS) leader is on trial for the 1992 expulsion of Croat civilians from the village of Hrtkovci in Vojvodina, as well as for crimes against the non-Serb population in Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina from 1991 until 1993. This morning in court, Seselj, refuting the prosecution’s claims, said that the prosecution was “buying time” and using “political methods” because they could not finish his trial “in a legal manner.” Presiding Judge Jean-Claude Antonetti announced that an investigation would be conducted in the wake of the prosecution’s motion. However, Antonetti emphasized that he had asked Tribunal President Fausto Pocar to be excused from the contempt of court proceedings, proposing that the case be heard in a different trial chamber to avoid further delays in the main trial.
