The Slovenian Democratic Party of Pensioners has decided to resume coalition talks that it suspended last week. The Pensioners want an equal position in the negotiations on the basis of their election result, and party leader Karel Erjavec is no longer demanding the position of defense minister, which he held in the previous government, as a condition for entering the coalition. Slovenian coalition talks continue The party wants three ministries in Borut Pahor’s future government, one of which is the Foreign Ministry. After today’s meeting between Erjavec and Pahor, talks for harmonizing a coalition agreement between the Social Democrats and Pensioners will also begin. There will be talks with all other potential coalition partners in a Social Democrat government, including Zares, the Liberal Democratic Party and the Democratic Party of Pensioners. Reports suggest that the Pensioners also want pensions to be raised to the level of the average wage in Slovenia in order to enter the coalition. Harmonization of coalition parties is expected to conclude by Sunday, by which time all ministerial positions will have been allotted, before being submitted to the parliament for debate.
