According to daily Politika, a new draft law will ensure that only people screened by the security services (BIA) will be able to access classified information. The draft law on classified information, which has been submitted to parliament, could finally regulate the area of information considered to be secret by the state, which is governed today in Serbia by a sea of legal regulations, resulting in inadequate protection of such information. “Serbia has more secrets than NATO” The sheer volume of regulations begs the conclusion that the work of state bodies, public services, the military and police, but also public companies and institutions, is often unnecessarily covered under a veil of secrecy. The draft law, which Trustee for Information of Public Importance Rodoljub Sabic helped draw up, was supported with the signatures of 35,870 members of the public. “This law needs to be adopted under urgent procedure. Take the Agreement on Data Security signed by Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac on behalf of the government with NATO in Brussels at the beginning of the month. It turns out that Serbia has more classified information than the entire North-Atlantic alliance,” Sabic told Politika. He said that Bosnia-Herzegovina, Slovenia, Macedonia and Croatia had already adopted similar laws.
