The Serb Radical Party (SRS) has filed charges against its former deputy president Tomislav Nikolic, and Banca Intesa. The party is requesting a cancellation of a contract for a RSD 50mn loan. Radicals sue former deputy leader SRS official Zoran Krasic told reporters in front of the Commercial Court in Belgrade today that Nikolic made the deal with the bank without permission from the party’s Central Homeland Administration. SRS is calling for the contract to be terminated and for all the blank bills to be returned. Krasic added that Nikolic initially, in March 2008, made a short-term deal with the bank which he later changed by signing an annex with a deadline for paying off the loan by 2012, making the total debt close to RSD 68mn. Krasic said that the party will probably file criminal charges on Wednesday against Nikolic in order for the court to bring to the surface all the elements of the contract, and to confirm whether he signed a similar contract with any other banks. Meantime, Nikolic’s Serb Progressive Party (SNS) denied these accusations calling them “most abominable lies”. “The SNS regrets the pathetic, but mostly irresponsible behavior of the SRS administration, which is no longer dealing with politics and opposition work, but only looking how to hurt the largest opposition force to the SRS - the SNS – with insults, curses and abominable lies,” SNS stated. The party added that the loan accusations "make no sense", as it "only shows how far from a serious opposition they are, at a time when Serbia is faced with great political and economic problems”.
