A Montenegrin opposition leader says the Djukanovic cabinet has worked against the stability in the region with its Kosovo recognition. All this, Movement for Change President Nebojsa Medojevic told B92, despite the fact that establishing regional stability was set as a prerequisite for Montenegro to open negotiations for membership in the European Union (EU). He said that the pressure on Montenegro to recognize did not come from Brussels or Washington, "but from the drug cartels". "Obviously this was about personal pressure on Mr. Djukanovic from the lobbying structures with which he has previously had political and business ties," Medojevic claimed. "I have spoken very transparently about the exceptional influence of these narco-cartels in Montenegro, which have been functioning without any impediment for years. Montenegro is on the route of the two largest narcotics distribution chains in Europe," he continued. Medojevic added that Djukanovic had made a politically illegitimate decision and that the mention of Montenegro's European integration processes was merely a pretext. "Djukanovic has failed to keep the pledge made during the election campaign - that his foreign-policy top priority is to maintain good relations with Serbia. It is not clear why Djukanovic marred the relations with Serbia, because all that was expected of Montenegro was to be neutral concerning Kosovo...This is the first time that the Montenegrin authorities have made a hostile act against Serbia and its leadership," Medojevic said.
