The International Civilian Office (ICO) in Pristina is very satisfied with its cooperation with the Kosovo government, an Albanian language daily writes. The office, headed by EU's envoy in Kosovo Pieter Feith, is also satisfied with the implementation of the Ahtisaari plan, Kosova Sot newspaper reports. Feith office, Pristina in close cooperation It goes on to explain that the ICO is the highest international authority in Kosovo, while Feith is the chief authority in implementing the Ahtisaari plan on Kosovo's supervised independence. "The Kosovo government has from the start had excellent cooperation with the civilian office. We have regular meetings and consultations," government spokesman Memli Krasniqi said. He was joined in his appraisal by his ICO counterpart Andy McGuffie. "We have close cooperation with the government of Kosovo on all levels. International civilian representative Pieter Feith holds regular weekly meetings with Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, while our experts work primarily with the representatives of the ministries on the implementation of the Ahtisaari plan," he said. Nevertheless, the paper reports that some disagreements have also emerged, and gives the choice of the new ombudsman as an example. Namely, the assembly in Pristina recently decided at the eleventh hour to withdraw a scheduled vote for the appointment of this official, and to call a new competition. The controversy stems from the fact that the main candidate for the office was Murat Jashari – a relative of the KLA leader Adem Jashari. The ICO officials never confirmed that they played any role in the annulment of the original competition, but some Kosovo Albanian politicians unofficially admitted that the civilian mission stepped in to intervene. Another case, according to Kosova Sot, is an ICO internal reports on appointments to the public companies' boards of directors, such as the postal service and the Pristina airport. The report, published by the local media recently, said that the Kosovo government was exerting political influence in the process of these appointments. But the newspaper reminds that whether willingly or not, the Kosovo authorities are under obligation to cooperate with the ICO, and explain that this obligation stems from the Ahtisaari document.
