Kosovo Albanian authorities have torn down a school built from the Serbian government funds in the Gora area. Beta news agency reported on Saturday that the school, financed by the National Investment Plan (NIP), was located in the village of Mlike, inhabited by one of the province's minorities, the Goranis. Govt. funded school demolished in Kosovo Gora municipal president Alija Abdi said that citizens unsuccessfully tried to prevent bulldozers, accompanied by KFOR soldiers and Kosovo Albanian inspectors, from demolishing the premises, including new toilets and an IT classroom. The justification for this act, Abdi said, was that the reconstruction and building works on the school came without an appropriate permit. "Twenty citizens stopped the bulldozers from destroying even the pavement in the yard by lying down on the ground in front of them," he told Beta. There were no injuries in this incident, the news agency reported. Dragan Djilas, DS, then minister in charge of the NIP, in March this year visited the area handing over RSD 1mn for the reconstruction of the school attened by 111 students. He also brought seven new computers for the school and promised that best students would receive scholarships. This year, Serbia has put aside RSD 1.3bn from the budget for projects in Kosovo.
