Zrenjanin mayor questioned

Zrenjanin Mayor Goran Knezevic was brought before the Special Court this morning to face questioning. Questioning of suspects began yesterday morning. Zrenjanin mayor questioned Knezevic came in for questioning at 06.00 CET, and once all the suspects have been interviewed, the investigative judge will decide whether to launch an investigation against the suspects and place them into custody. Knezevic’s lawyer Vicentije Darijevic told Tanjug that the judge had questioned four suspects before midnight. He said that his other client, former President of the Zrenjanin Tender Commission Bratislav Tomic, had denied all the allegations against him. Knezevic and 11 others are suspected of illegally expropriating land and fraudulent public purchasing. The Special Organized Crime Prosecution wants all the suspects remanded in custody to prevent escape and witness tampering, and because of the sheer gravity of the crime. Before questioning, the prosecution filed a motion to launch an investigation stating that 12 persons, led by Knezevic, are suspected of criminal association, receiving and giving bribes.
