The trial of eight policemen for the murder of 48 Albanian civilians in the Kosovo village of Suva Reka in 1999 continues. Those accused of ordering and carrying out the murders of the Berisha family on March 26, 1999 include head of the “Nis Detachment” police unit Radoslav Mitrovic, Suva Reka Police Chief Radojko Repanovic and his deputy Nenad Jovanovic, together with police officers Sladjan Cukaric, Miroslav Petkovic, Zoran Petkovic, Ramiz Papic, and State Security operative Milorad Nisavic. Suva Reka war crimes trial continues According to the indictment, the police officers and several of their colleagues shot dead several older members of the Berisha family, before rounding up the remaining men, women and children, taking them and locking them inside the Calabria pizzeria, before tossing two hand grenades inside. Afterwards, they shot dead a number of other victims ranging from a one-year-old baby to a 100-year-old woman, and while removing the corpses, they proceeded to shoot dead anyone still showing the slightest signs of life. Later they killed Jashar Berisha, Abdullah Elshani, who was taken out of Suva Reka prison with his hands tied. They are being tried before the District Court War Crimes Chamber in Belgrade.
