CoE: Kosovo ties only on basis of 1244

Relations between the Council of Europe and Kosovo will be in line with UN Security Council Resolution 1244, said CoE Secretary General Terry Davis. At a working breakfast with reporters, Davis stressed that the CoE would continue to support the territorial integrity of all of its members, until the UN Security Council took a different decision on their status. Drawing a comparison with the situation in Georgia, Davis pointed out that there was an inconsistency in the stands of certain countries that had recognized Kosovo's unilaterally declared independence and were now berating Russia for recognizing the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

Davis also underlined that the same kind of inconsistency could be seen with Russia, which, conversely, did not wish to acknowledge the independence of Kosovo.
