Tomislav Nikolic on Friday confirmed he had met with U.S. Ambassador Cameron Munter three days ago. The former deputy leader of the Radicals (SRS), now at the helm of the Serb Progressive Party (SNS), said he and discussed Kosovo with the U.S. diplomat. Nikolic confirms meeting Munter "The U.S. ambassador tried to find out whether Serbia would accept quick economic recovery and cooperation with the entire world while it keeps the issue of Kosovo-Metohija on the side. I said that Kosovo was not a laundry basket in order to be kept on the side," Nikolic told reporters at parliament. He said that he learned from the ambassador that independent Kosovo is the only future option for the United States and that he responded to this by saying that Kosovo within Serbia is the only acceptable and possible option for Serbia. The Belgrade daily Politika said on Friday that Nikolic had had meetings with the U.S. and British ambassadors in Belgrade after his breakup with SRS leader Vojislav Seselj.
