Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic said that Serbia’s main goals are progress and a stable macro-economic environment. He said that another goal is to cooperate with all relevant political actors in the world. PM expects stability and cooperation The European Union is Serbia’s goal, but we also want to develop relations with other countries in the world, including the Russian Federation, China and India, Cvetkovic said at a conference of the Ministry of Spatial Planning and Environment entitled “Towards a Better Life Through Partnership”. He added that his cabinet wants Serbia to become a pillar of peace and stability in the region, and that partnership means the wish to solve all problems in a peaceful manner through diplomacy instead of violence. The prime minister noted that economic development requires an attractive business climate, and macroeconomic stability, improved tax policy and strengthening the infrastructure. Cvetkovic expect that the value of the domestic currency, the dinar ,will remain stable in the coming period. Serbia wants to decrease the 10 percent inflation rate steadily, but the largest problem is getting rid of the trade debt, the prime minister said. He added that the taxation policies must be attractive for job creation, the cost of work and in relation to taxing income and the earnings of entrepreneurs. The government has also begun to compile inventory of all regulations from various fields in order to confirm which need to be cancelled or redefined. Cvetkovic said that once the process – which je dubbed "the regulation guillotine" – is complete, about a third of the 15,000 laws will be annuled, and about another third will be altered. One of the main components for creating a good business ambient is developing the infrastructure, Cvetkovic said, adding that the government’s priority is the construction of Corridor 10, which will be finished or close to completion in four years.
