Former Justice Minister Vladan Batic is asking for Biljana Plavsic to be released from prison. Batic, a minister in the Djindjic cabinet and the leader of the Demo-Christians (DHSS), today asked Sweden's prime minister and minister of justice to notify the Hague Tribunal that, according to this country's laws, the conditions for the release of the former Republic of Srpska president have all been met. Frmr. minister urges Plavsic release This would allow the Tribunal’s President Fausto Pocar to take steps towards allowing her release. Batic told the Swedish authorities that he had received a letter from Pocar, informing him that for any sentence to be reduced, the authorities of the state where the person was serving their sentence must to notify the Tribunal that the conditions have been met. Batic reminded that Plavsic, who has convicted to 11 years in prison, has already served two thirds of her sentence and is therefore eligible for early release. Batic quoted "Christian ethics and humanity" as reasons for such a decision, and also reminded that Plavsic is a 78-year-old woman, and a university professor.
