The West has "amazing double standards", Russian Ambassador to the EU Vladimir Chizhov said in Brussels on Tuesday. "In February, when the unilateral independence of Kosovo was proclaimed, no-one said a word about the territorial integrity of Serbia, and yet they are now insisting on the territorial integrity of Georgia," Chizhov was quoted as saying. "Kosovo as special as 200 other cases" "The double standards of the West are indeed amazing. In February, only Russia spoke about the need to respect the territorial integrity of Serbia," he told a news conference. "At that time, the EU did not mention in a single document the territorial integrity of Serbia, and yet they are now insisting on the territorial integrity of Georgia," he continued. "This is very clear evidence of double standards," the Russian ambassador said. He also commented on a statement by French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who said that Kosovo is a special case, by saying that there is "not a single piece of evidence to prove that Kosovo is unique". "Quite the opposite, experts speak about 200 cases similar to that of Kosovo all over the world, and for them, Kosovo is a true precedent," the Russian diplomat said. Chizhov underscored that it is "difficult to defend the stand that what is permitted to Kosovo Albanians is not permitted to anyone else in the world".
