Health Minister Tomica Milosavljevic says the problem of medicine being sent to Kosovo is of a “technical” nature. A truck transporting medicine to sick people in central Kosovo is still being detained at the customs office on the administrative line in southern Kosovska Mitrovica. Kosovo medicine problems of “technical nature” The Kosovo customs office claims that the amount of medicine in the truck exceeds the amount stated in the documentation. The Velefarm company, which sent the consignment, denies those claims. Milosavljevic said that all the problems with sending medicine to Kosovo were resolved when an agreement was reached with the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNMIK. Velefarm stated that the consignment of medicine was accompanied by the necessary import licenses issued by the Kosovo Health Ministry, based on the agreement with the WHO and UNMIK for supplying health institutions in central Kosovo. “The Kosovo Medicine Agency issued import authorization on June 4, which is valid until September 3, and the confiscated medicine was part of that consignment. It is true that we, in the presence of the Kosovo Health Ministry inspector and the Kosovo customs service, established at the scene that all the serial numbers of all the medicine tallied with what was listed on the import license,” Velefarm stated. The company also pointed out that in February there had been several confiscations of medicine and vehicles belonging not only to Velefarm, but other health institutions as well. Velefarm said that the actions of the Kosovo government showed their intention to portray the legal import of goods as smuggling.
