Around 70 veterans are continuing to protest in front of the government building demanding payment of their wartime wages. Thousands of reservists flocked from several towns in Serbia to protest in Belgrade yesterday morning. Veterans continuing protest After spending the entire day in the capital, most of them left the protest during the night, while around 70 veterans remained in the park next to the government building. They say that they will stay there until their demands have been met and that they expect more veterans to join them today. Velimir Milosevic, one of the strike leaders, told Beta that the vice president of the strike board, Mica Aleksic, had been taken ill and had been taken to Casualty. Vice President of the United Strike Board Dusan Nikolic said last night that most of the reservists had left during the evening due to work commitments or because of the free transport that had been laid on for them. "Representatives of the strike boards have stayed on, as have a number of reservists from Leskovac, Nis and Kraljevo,” Nikolic said. The veterans are seeking an audience with Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic, for whom they submitted a list of their demands to the government secretariat yesterday. They want Cvetkovic to hold a cabinet session via conference call to discuss reimbursement of wages owed to them dating back to the Kosovo conflict in 1999. The former Third Army reservists want the government to apply the same payment model as the previous government adopted for their colleagues from the Toplica district.
