The speaker of the Belgrade City Assembly says he'll call a session once an agreement on constituting a govt. is reached. Branislav Belic told journalists that the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) had still not given its approval to the agreement, adding that he had not even received official confirmation that a deal had been struck between the coalition led by the Democratic Party (DS) and the parties gathered round the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS). Belgrade: Agreement first, then session “I would like this to end as soon as possible, but this is politics, it’s taking some time. Still, I think everything will turn out all right,” Belic said. He did not want to talk about the negotiations, adding that he was responsible for the assembly, and that other people were dealing with forming the new government. The deadline for electing a new mayor expires on August 22. Yesterday, the DS city board said that the DS-led coalition and the parties gathered round the SPS had established the principles for the new local government, and that they expected the LDP’s support. Earlier, the LDP announced that in return for their support to the DS-SPS minority government, the public companies would have to be depoliticized. Branislav Belic (Beta, archive)
