DSS official Nenad Popovic has accused the government of turning its back on Kosovo. Popovic said that the authorities were only worried about pensions. “Govt. turning its back on Kosovo” "This is a socially irresponsible government. Instead of creating new jobs and raising salaries, the government’s only concerned about pensions,” Popovic, head of the Democratic Party of Serbia’s (DSS) Economic Council, told Belgrade daily Novosti. He said that the biggest success of the former government had been the government and opposition’s joint policy on Kosovo, supported by 95 percent of MPs, and that “the policy of the new government has brought Kosovo to the edge of the abyss.” "Now, even ministers from the same party don’t have a united position. One says that Thaci should be negotiated with, another says that there will be no negotiations. If they continue to act like that, I fear that we could definitely lose Kosovo,” Popovic warned. Asked to comment on links between the Kosovo issue and the war in Georgia, he said that Georgia had committed genocide upon the people living in South Ossetia. "It all seems like [Operation] Storm to me. If this does not stop, I fear that the Kosovo Albanians will use the same scenario and persecute Serbs from the north of the province,” the DSS official cautioned.
