The Dutch govt. wants to hear Serge Brammertz’s view on Belgrade’s cooperation regarding the 2 remaining fugitives. Only after the Hague Tribunal chief prosecutor has stated his position will the Netherlands decide whether to ratify the interim trade agreement with Serbia. Holland: Brammertz’s view, then SAA Dutch European Affairs Minister Frans Timmermans told journalists at the ministers meeting in Brussels that “two more fugitives are still at large and full cooperation needs to be established, especially in the case of Ratko Mladic.” “Brammertz is the one to say whether that cooperation exists. If he says so, we’ll deem whether that is enough for us to go forward,” said Timmermans. “Brammertz’s position is very important, although the final decision doesn’t just depend on him, as there are other conditions as well. We need to see if Serbia fulfills all of them,” the minister explained. “First, we need to see Karadzic extradited to the Hague Tribunal, then hear Brammertz’s opinion, and then consider further moves where relations with Serbia are concerned. That decision should be made by the permanent representatives of the EU member states”, he stressed. EU foreign ministries will not meet again until September, and EU permanent representatives will meet tomorrow and on July 29, when they will have to, based on the decisions of their respective governments, come to a unanimous decision on whether to allow the interim trade agreement with Serbia to enter into force. That could also mean giving the green light to ratification of the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) with Serbia. Serge Brammertz (www.un.org)
