French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner says that a complete solution to the Kosovo problem will require time. “Things in Kosovo are going relatively well, but not everything has yet been settled. A solution will require an entire generation,” said Kouchner in an address to the OSCE’s Permanent Council in Vienna. Kouchner: Kosovo solution requires time The minister, whose country assumed the EU presidency on July 1, said that he hoped that the EULEX mission would soon be established, as it would, he said, play an important role in Kosovo’s development. He said that he was “relatively satisfied” with developments in the province, but that the problem required further attention. Kouchner also commended the role the OSCE mission had played “in the past, but also in the future” in Kosovo, stressing that “no-one’s calling into question the positive role of the OSCE in Kosovo.” “The mission in Kosovo has an important role and encourages democratization and multi-ethnicity in Kosovo, devoting particular attention to the security of minorities,” the minister underlined. He voiced his hope that the French EU presidency would help enhance the OSCE mission’s work in the province. Kouchner said that the EU and the OSCE were complementary organizations that still did not cooperate sufficiently, even though they shared the same principles and values.
