The Hague Tribunal has decided to grant former Defense Minister Dragoljub Ojdanic temporary release. Ojdanic is due to be released on July 18 and return to the Hague on August 12. Hague: Temporary release for ex-army chief The Tribunal stated that Ojdanic had been accorded temporary release on humanitarian grounds, in line with the strict rules and conditions of the Hague Tribunal, including 24-hour surveillance, for which the Serbian authorities will be responsible. Ojdanic, the former commander-in-chief of the Yugoslav Army (VJ), is on trial along with former Serbian President Milan Milutinovic, former SRJ government Vice President Nikola Sainovic and former army and police generals Nebojsa Pavkovic, Vladimir Lazarevic and Sreten Lukic for the deportation, murder, and persecution of ethnic Albanians from Kosovo in the first six months of 1999. The closing statements in the case are due to begin on August 19 and end on August 22. The trial started on July 10, 2006.
