Russia will insist on the closure of the Hague Tribunal because it is not objective, says Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. According to the Russian Itar-Tass news agency, Lavrov said that “no special steps need to be thought up for something like that”, because of the UN Security Council’s resolution that set the deadlines and time frames for that process. Lavrov: Hague isn't impartial Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrei Nesterenko yesterday harshly criticized the decision of the Hague Tribunal to clear former commander of the Bosnian Army in Srebrenica Naser Oric of all charges. Nesterenko said that the court had again showed its lack of objectivity and that it essentially served a political cause. In a written statement, he said that the Tribunal had not only failed to increase the unprecedentedly low sentence given to Oric in the summer of 2006, but had completely overturned it. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrei Nesterenko yesterday harshly criticized the decision of the Hague Tribunal to clear former commander of the Bosnian Army in Srebrenica Naser Orić of all charges.

Nesterenko said that the court had again showed its lack of objectivity and that it essentially served a political cause.

In a written statement, he said that the Tribunal had not only failed to increase the unprecedentedly low sentence given to Orić in the summer of 2006, but had completely overturned it.
