A German foreign ministry official says his country has lobbied for Kosovo's independence and will continue to support Pristina. Gunter Gloser, the German minister of state for Europe, spoke in Pristina on Monday when he said that Berlin also lobbied for "all the positive processes that have happened in Kosovo lately". "Germany will help Kosovo" Stating that Kosovo faced countless political and economic challenges, Gloser said that the Pristina institutions had committed to the Ahtisaari Plan. “In order to reach the integration of all those who wish to live in Kosovo, the involvement of the Kosovo Serbs is required too. That’s extremely important. We hope that the formation of the new Serbian government will bring a positive u-turn for these two countries to cooperate in future,” said the diplomat. He added that the German government did not support the Serb parallel structures in Kosovo. Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu thanked Germany for its assistance thus far in all processes in the province, as well as for their recognition of independence. Sejdiu added that he had received guarantees from the German ministry that this assistance would continue. “It’s very important that we’re coordinating our key movements and that we’ll continue to do so, in order to turn Kosovo into a democratic state for all its citizens, progressive and promising for all,” underlined the Kosovo president. International Civil representative Pieter Feith yesterday thanked Gloser for the help Germany had offered Kosovo. Following talks with the German diplomat in Pristina, Feith stressed that Germany was one of the most important states assisting Kosovo, both in terms of finances and human resources, the Office of the International Civil Representative stated. “We agreed that it was necessary for Kosovo to integrate further with the EU. We'll continue to cooperate with the Kosovo institutions and people to achieve further results. We're particularly looking forward to Friday's donor conference in Brussels, and we hope that significant funds will allow us to enhance economic development,“ said Feith. He said that cooperation with Germany would continue "in order to accomplish aims such as a stable and prosperous Kosovo that will move towards the EU, respecting the rights of all its inhabitants.“
