Pristina expects the new government in Belgrade to banish its prejudices regarding Kosovo, says President Fatmir Sejdiu. Commenting on the formation of the new ruling coalition in Serbia, Kosovo officials have been careful to distance themselves, stressing that Serbia and Kosovo are two different countries. Pristina reacts to new government Sejdiu said that it was in Serbia’s fundamental interests to give up on the approach to the Kosovo issue that it has adopted thus far, and turn towards its real priority, which, according to Sejdiu, was joining the European family. “That way the respect for European principles and the integration process will be affirmed, and it will also lead to a relaxation of relations in the region,” the Kosovo president surmised. Commenting on the new government, Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci said that the future of Kosovo no longer depended on changes within the government in Belgrade. “Kosovo has a clear vision for its foreign policies, and that is integration into NATO and the European Union,” Thaci said. “We have built great relations with Macedonia, Albania and Montenegro, and of course, we want to have close ties and good relations with Belgrade. There are issues that need to be discussed in the interests of the people of our two countries. These are specific issues unrelated to political status,” he explained.
