Italian police have arrested a man from Kosovo who married an 11-year old girl and fathered a child by her. Brescia police said that they had arrested a 21-year old man on suspicion of rape and forced enslavement. Kosovo man arrested for marrying 11-year old Police official Carmine Grassi said that the investigation had been launched when the girl, now 12, gave birth to a baby girl last month in a Brescia hospital. The legal age for entering sexual relations in Italy is 14. Grassi said that the suspect’s family had prearranged the marriage with the girl’s parents, who live in Serbia, and had paid them EUR 17,000. The girl was illegally brought into Italy last year. Grassi said that the girl and her daughter are now in the custody of social services.
