Parliament to debate amendments

Parliament will continue its debate on amendments to the proposed changes and annexes to the Law on the Government. The newly-formed parliamentary majority of 122 has proposed the law, to which 11 amendments have been submitted. The Serb Radical Party, the Democratic Party of Serbia-New Serbia coalition and the Liberal Democratic Party have said that they will not be voting for the proposed changes, as they consider them unconstitutional. Under the proposed amendments, the first deputy prime minister would have the same powers as the prime minister. The amendments also stipulate the form of decision-making in the event of an equal number of votes within the government, whereby the prime minister carries the casting vote. Adoption of the laws on the government and ministries will mean that the conditions have been met for the election of a new government, whose composition will be proposed by Prime Minister-elect Mirko Cvetkovic.
