UN Sec-Gen. Ban Ki-moon hopes that the arrival of the new UNMIK chief will lead to renewed dialogue on unresolved issues between Belgrade and Pristina. He said that he was “heartened” by President Boris Tadic’s statement at last week’s Security Council session that he would participate in talks on the six points included within the secretary-general’s plan. Ban hoping for new talks "I know that the positions of the Kosovo and Serbian authorities are very different, but I hope that the arrival of Lamberto Zannier in Pristina will get both parties involved in talks, so that all issues can be resolved in a peaceful manner,” Ban told a press conference at UN Headquarters. To a journalist’s observation that Zannier had “announced that he would encourage a new round of talks,” and asked why he had never personally visited the region, the secretary-general replied that he would “see” if he could come over. "Meanwhile, I will continue to maintain close cooperation with all leaders and interested parties both in Pristina and Belgrade, but also in the EU too,” Ban pledged. Ban Ki-moon (Fonet, archive)
