The European Commission believes that Russia's position on Kosovo is insufficiently constructive, the EC representative in Moscow said on Thursday. "Based on reports from the field, the European Union concluded that the situation in the province was unstable, which is why it took on itself the responsibility for such a situation," he continued. Brussels always considered the best solution to be the one that approved by the United Nations (UN) Security Council and Belgrade, and in whose realization Russia could be included, Franco said. "Unfortunately, it wasn't possible to realize this because of the suspension of the negotiating process between Pristina and Belgrade, and because there was practically no common position on this issue at the UN Security Council," Franco said. The EC will continue to work together with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, he said. The The EU mission in Kosovo – EULEX – will work in cooperation with the UN, the EU official said, pointing out that "more positive activities are needed from Russia in the search for a solution within the Security Council".
