Kosovo Serbs, especially those who live outside the north of the province, are fearful of the deployment EU mission, EULEX. But some analysts say the stalemate at the UN Security Council this week over the reconfiguration of the UN mission, UNMIK, planned now to include EULEX, could have some positive effects, as it could lead to a dialogue. Kosovo Serbs fearful of EULEX Kosovo Serb Miodrag Radivojevic from Svinjare says that although 97 international representatives visited this village, "no benefit for the Serb population was achieved". "If we have not managed to return in their presence, with their help, how will we do it now? Who will help these people, understand their problems and solve them," he wondered. Serbs in another enclave, that of Velika Hoca, say they are also worried about everyday issues such as power, water and basic food supplies. A former director of Pristina's Media Center, Milivoje Mijajlovic, told B29 that the best way forward at this time would be for UNMIK to remain in the Serb areas, while EULEX, set up to control implementation of laws by Kosovo's institutions, should go to the ethnic Albanian regions. "Serbs in Kosovo, especially those south of the Ibar, have faith in UNMIK, since they have no other backing, because UNMIK is the legitimate international representative in Kosovo", he said. Milivojevic, who is the government media office chief, says that a future cabinet could make progress if it insists on speedy return of the Serbs driven out of their homes in the province, but believes that no significant changes in the relations between Belgrade and Pristina will occur.
