The Hague Prosecution has accused Croatia of hiding documents linked to the trials of three Croatian generals— Ante Gotovina, Mladen Markac and Ivan Cermak. They are accused of war crimes during and after Operation Storm. Hague: Croatia hiding documents The prosecution has asked the Hague to set the Croatian prosecution a deadline of 15 days to submit these documents linked to artillery actions and special police activities during the operation. According to the Hague Tribunal, the prosecution filed its complaint against the Croatian authorities for insufficient cooperation on June 13. The complaint states that “Croatia has not made available documents regarding artillery operations during Storm or special police documents relating to Mladen Markac’s activities and special police units under his command during the operation. At issue are several hundred documents, including a series of orders, reports and instructions, as well as a list of targets that the artillery and police had during the operation. The prosecution says in its complaint, signed by Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz that although the Croatian authorities have conducted searches for the documents over the last 18 months, other than a handful of documents, Croatia has not handed over or taken any sincere efforts to provide the documentation sought by the prosecution. The complaint's conclusion is that the Croatian prosecution has consciously removed or concealed those documents because a great many are missing, and because the same practice was observed in Croatia in the case against Bosnian Croat General Tihomir Blaskic 12 years ago. The complaint states in detail the Tribunals’ attempts since November 2006 to gain access to Defense Ministry archives and obtain documents relating to the activities of the Croatian artillery and special police during Storm, and includes all contacts and conversations that the prosecution has had with the Croatian side.
