Raiffeisen robber placed in custody

Aleksandar Spasic, a clerk at Raiffeisen Bank’s regional branch in Kragujevac, has been placed in custody on suspicion of stealing EUR 1.44mn. Spasic is suspected of embezzlement. Raiffeisen robber placed in custody “The suspect confirmed that he had committed the crime, and said that he had done so for personal reasons and that he had not wanted to keep the money,” said Suzana Grujovic, the investigative judge at the Kragujevac District Court. Spasic was taken to the court at 23:00 CET under police security, and was questioned for almost three hours. Grujovic also issued a warrant to conduct a further investigation. The Kragujevac Public Prosecutor had earlier submitted an application to conduct an investigation against Aleksandar Spasic, asking the investigative judge to “place the suspect in custody, and carry out a psychiatric examination,” said court spokeswoman Marija Mladenovic earlier. Police stated yesterday that they had found EUR 1.34mn buried in six different locations in and around Kragujevac, while the remaining EUR 100,000 have yet to be found. The money was discovered in black plastic bags, and trees near the holes where the money was buried had been discreetly marked in red. Spasic was arrested late on Saturday, June 7 in the Trezor bar.

Spasić was taken to the court at 23:00 CET under police security, and was questioned for almost three hours.

Grujović also issued a warrant to conduct a further investigation.

The Kragujevac Public Prosecutor had earlier submitted an application to conduct an investigation against Aleksandar Spasić, asking the investigative judge to “place the suspect in custody, and carry out a psychiatric examination,” said court spokeswoman Marija Mladenović earlier.
