The coalition grouped around the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) will not formulate a definite position on forming a governing coalition today, says Ivica Dacic. “At today's meeting of the SPS, the Associated Pensioners’ Party (PUPS), and United Serbia, we'll reach an agreement over tomorrow’s session of parliament, over whether we’ll have a joint MPs’ club or whether PUPS will have its own, and other matters that are important to the start of parliament’s work,” the SPS leader told Tanjug prior to talks. No definitive decision from SPS-PUPS-JS Dacic does not expect the coalition to adopt “a definitive position as far as further talks with the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) and the Radicals are concerned,“ as, he said, PUPS had only just received from the DSS “an economic analysis of the chances of achieving their pension demands.“ “I expect the SPS-PUPS-JS coalition to come to a united position on all divisive issues, and then we’ll intensify talks with the DSS and SRS in the coming days, and focus on the three key issues,“ he said. The SPS leader stressed that today’s meeting should not be viewed as a “definitive point as far as negotiations thus far are concerned.“ The SPS-PUPS-JS coalition won 20 seats altogether at the parliamentary elections, 12 of which will go to the Socialists, five to PUPS, allowing them to form their own MPs’ club, and three to JS. Dacic said this morning that he was sure that after that analysis the coalition would have a common position on the fate of talks with the Serb Radical Party (SRS) and Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS). “I would ask everyone to put a stop to the speculation as to what and how much is being offered to the SPS and our coalition. We’re not on the stock exchange. We would not enter a government where we were unable to achieve these principles we’re talking about, and that goes for PUPS and JS too. And, I would particularly call on all parties to put to a stop to all the various alarming warnings that are dividing our coalition,“ said the SPS leader. He said that the SPS would take a decision by tomorrow, when parliament’s constitutive session is due to be held, on whom to form a parliamentary majority with. It was agreed at consultations yesterday with outgoing Parliamentary Speaker Oliver Dulic that that session would be chaired by PUPS leader Jovan Krkobabic, as the oldest MP. That session will see the verification of mandates for the new parliament. Ivica Dacic (FoNet, archive)
