Four veterans of 1999 war who are on hunger strike in Krusevac, protesting unpaid wages, received medical treatment today. “We gave them IV fluids, and they will receive some glucose. They suffer from hypotension and pain due to lying down on a hard surface,” said doctor Vesna Milenkovic from the Krusevac Emergency Services. Four hunger strikers taken ill She added that the long-term hunger strikes could lead to complete failure of vital organs, and recommended that the veterans end their strike. However, the nine former army reservists from the southern Serbian town, refusing food since June 2, say that they will not give up. They are waiting for the results of a meeting set to be held tomorrow in Belgrade, between the representatives of their strike board, representing the former Third Army District, and a work group set up by the government. The hunger strike began after the authorities failed to make good on a promise that that some of the overdue money will be paid.
