Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic (DS) says that the most important factor for attracting investment is forming a pro-European government. Meanwhile, Trade Minister Predrag Bubalo (DSS) stressed that it was better to have a pro-Serbian government of European orientation. Ministers' views clash over future govt. The two officials were speaking at a presentation yesterday of a publication on the leading foreign investors in Serbia. Djelic said the country’s European prospects should be confirmed because it would affect the price of capital and would encourage investment. “A certain number of investors have pulled out because of political instability and the failure to form a socially responsible pro-European government. As a result, a number of privatization processes have not taken place,” the deputy prime minister said. In contrast, Bubalo pointed out that the country first had to meet the criteria for EU entry. “No-one can precisely determine the exact extent of the losses incurred by the failure to form a government so far, but the figure is not as high as some would wish to make out,” he said. "Most of these projects depend on parliament, and parliament will be formed soon, so the loans and the agreement with Russia will be ratified, and the losses will certainly not be as serious as is often misrepresented," Bubalo pointed out.
