Boris Tadic says the Radicals and DSS are trying to create a mathematical majority in order to hide their election failures, but that "it will not work." In an interview with daily Blic, DS leader Tadic, who is also Serbia's president, said that post-election negotiations last a prolonged period of time in almost every European countries, and that Serbia cannot be spared from this. Tadic wants “will of citizens respected” According to the Democratic Party (DS) leader, the question of European integrations will be key in the negotiations for the formation of a new government. Tadic told the newspaper that the dramatic difference in the stances of those who are calling for an annulment of the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA), blocking Serbia’s European integration and stopping the economic growth of the Serbian industry, will be a sobering factor for the third party in the negotiations, the SPS-PUPS-JS ticket. “The incoherence of the so-called national, in fact anti-national government, and the fact that not only could it not solve any of our problems but would itself be a great problem on the backs of the citizens, leads us to the only possible and positive result – forming a stable, socially responsible government which will, instead of conflicts and empty, quasi-patriotic talk, really improve the standing of Serbia and the standard of its citizens,” Tadic said. He added that both the presidential and parliamentary elections clearly showed the orientation of the citizens, adding that the policies that go against the will of the people, do nothing more than aimlessly force partisan spite and tie the hands of the government, and have no future. Asked how he sees the reconciliation and cooperation of his party and the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), Tadic said that “every possibility for resolving conflicts between us and turning a new leaf in our cooperative work on fulfilling a national goal is beneficial and very useful for everyone.” “Even if this is not reconciliation, let it be a strategic agreement, let everyone believe in what they believe, but let us gather around a united goal, a goal of defending the integrity of the country and Serbia’s membership in the European Union,” Tadic said, adding that both parties have ideas that coincide with the Socialist International and that is something that can me made function with a partnership. The DS leader said that the Socialists were the authentic representatives of Serbia in the 1990s by the will of the people, and that is what the Democrats have had the same role since 2000. “Both parties paid the price of their engagement. It is now time to turn a new page in history and do the job with our united forces. The task ahead of us is great and historical – and if we do not achieve it, no one will. Any eventual failure would have catastrophic consequences on this generation and the next. That is why failure is not an option,” Tadic concluded. Boris Tadic (FoNet)
