Attorney Rajko Danilovic says there is no political will in Serbia to apprehend Hague fugitives Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic. "It is the Serbian government's fault, the fault of this government, and the one before. This has been going on for a long time. They know where those two are. They but have coffee and play chess with them," Danilovic told Radio Free Europe. "Authorities know where Mladic is" "It's all political games. Some live off Mladic and Karadzic. Some live off those crimes. They have their followers that reach up to 35 to 40 percent of the electorate," the lawyer, best known in Serbia as the legal representative of the Djindjic family, said. Danilovic also dismissed speculation that former U.S. diplomat Richard Holbrooke, on behalf of his government, guaranteed Karadzic impunity. "And, even if he did guarantee it, he could not live up to that guarantee. If security structures wished to arrest him [Karadzic], they would have," he continued. In his opinion, both former Bosnian Serb leaders accused of war crimes by the Hague Tribunal were located, with Carla Del Ponte "constantly pointing to this, sending the authorities messages that she knew where they were, and that those who are meant to extradite them knew this also". "I would in no way remove the responsibility from the political elites of the countries where those two moved and hid," Danilovic concluded. Rajko Danilovic (FoNet, archive)
