KFOR: Security situation stable

KFOR Commander Xavier Bout de Marnhac says that the results of the Serbian local elections will not affect the security situation in Kosovo. The French lieutenant general said that there would be no reason for KFOR to alter its mission after the Kosovo constitution became law on June 15. KFOR and UNMK did not oppose or support the holding of elections,” he said. “My mission under Resolution 1244 is to ensure peace and security, that’s why I’m here, and I will be here and in other areas in the coming days,” de Marnhac stressed. He added that KFOR was following the processes that were ongoing in Kosovo, and would decide what measures to take accordingly. The KFOR commander said that if UNMIK asked for support in deploying the EU mission, KFOR would respond to that request, and that the peacekeeping forces would always be there to ensure peace and security throughout the province.
