Both the DS and SRS mayoral candidates in Belgrade, Dragan Djilas and Aleksandar Vucic, are claiming victory. Belgraders do not choose their mayor in a direct ballot; a party or coalition in the city assembly must muster a majority of votes from councilors for this. Democrats, Radicals both claim victory in Belgrade Today, Djilas said that the Democratic Party (DS) is prepared to cooperate with all that have the same ideas for the development of Belgrade and stand for European values. Vucic, on the other hand, said that it is obvious that a coalition of the Serb Radical Party (SRS), DSS-NS coalition and the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) will be formed in Belgrade. Djilas said that the DS does not wish to have as few parties as possible take over in Belgrade, "so that there is more to share between them", and added non-partisan figures will be invited to become councilors for the DS-led coalition. He said that “the DS is prepared to give positions to all who want to lead the city with us, to work together and achieve as much as possible.” “Elections are over and now it is time to continue with our work,” Djilas said. However, no party has won an outright majority in the capital, and for this reason Vucic commented that it he will be the next mayor of Belgrade once the SRS-DSS-NS-SPS coalition is established. “We have no formal agreements yet, but I think that it is logical and obvious what the government will be in Belgrade. I think that it is obvious to everyone that the majority of Belgrade citizens voted for change,” Vucic said. He added that "anything else would not make sense because the president of the SPS city board, had the worst things to say about the leadership of the Democratic Party not ten days ago.” “At the same time, the Socialists said that they will never enter a coalition with the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), and the LDP said that they will not join the SPS, and some kind of conclusion can be derived from that,” Vucic said. According to the preliminary results, the DS-led ticket in the local Belgrade ballot won 45 city council seats out of a total 110. The Radicals received 35.01 percent of the vote, or 40 seats, while the DSS-NS coalition received 12, and the LDP earned seven seats. The SPS-PUPS-JS coalition received a total of six seats in the city assembly.
