Novi Sad: No Socialists or LDP

Unofficial information suggests that there will be no Socialist or Liberal Democratic Party councilors in the next Novi Sad city assembly.

Unofficial information suggests that there will be no Socialist or Liberal Democratic Party councilors in the next Novi Sad city assembly. The “Maja Gojkovic" Citizens’ Group, however, is believed to have performed surprisingly well. Novi Sad: No Socialists or LDP The City Electoral Commission told Tanjug last night that votes were still being counted for 192 polling stations, but that the parties had already released their own results with minimal discrepancies. The Democratic Party (DS) and Vojvodina League of Social Democrats (LSV) stated that the “For a European Novi Sad” coalition had been victorious, and that these two parties would reassume power in the city after four years of Serb Radical Party (SRS) rule. The coalition, made up of the DS and G17 Plus, stated that it had won 34 percent of the vote, or a total of 31 of 78 seats in the city assembly. The “Together for Vojvodina” coalition, made up of the LSV and the Serbian Renewal Movement (SPO), will have 9 councilors, meaning that these two coalitions can form a majority together. The SRS will have 25 seats, the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) will have five, and the Hungarian Coalition one. Former Mayor Maja Gojkovic’s group was able to claim seven seats at the election. Novi Sad’s new mayor will be elected by the city assembly. The two frontrunners are the president of the DS’s local committee, Igor Pavlicic, and LSV leader Nenad Canak.
