Serb Radical Party (SRS) Deputy President Tomislav Nikolic urged Thursday the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) to decide with which party it will form a coalition. The parliamentary elections are scheduled for May 11. SRS leader urges DSS to decide Nikolic said yesterday he had made it known whom the Radicals would form a coalition with, but there was "no response for 10 days" from the DSS, and urged Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica's party "to decide now". "Only parties which want to defend and develop Serbia can enter a coalition with the SRS," he told a rally in Zajecar, eastern Serbia. Referring to Kosovo, Nikolic said it will remain a part of Serbia forever and that this cannot be negotiated. As regards cooperation with the European Union, the Radicals are not against it he said, "but the EU must first accept that Kosovo belongs to Serbia". Serbia will never join NATO or any other military alliance, he said, adding that the country needs a small and efficient army for its own defense. The SRS will create a safe state ruled by law, in which any lawful foreign investment will be secure, "the judiciary and police will work according to law", Nikolic said. The latest public opinion poll, released Thursday, suggested that the Radicals will win the May ballot, but not with a clear majority, and will therefore have to seek coalition partners in order to form the next cabinet.
