Police officers testify in Wahhabi trial The accused Fuad Hodzic, Mirsad Prentic and brothers Senad and Vahid Vejslovic were arrested on March 16 of last year, when the police found a Wahhabi camp in Zabar on Mt. Ninaja, some 30 km from Novi Pazar,. Slobodan Bijorac explained that his patrol got orders to control the Sjenica-Novi Pazar road, because there was information that some individuals had been shooting on Ninaja Mountain. “We were warned to be careful, because those people were probably armed and the possibility existed that they would resist arrest,” said Bijorac. He stated that at the crossroads by the Sjenica stream they had noticed four men coming out of the woods onto the road, who, as soon as they noticed the vehicle with the police officers in it, immediately kneeled and started to “pray.” The witness explained that during the search they found a pistol with a clip in Hodzic’s house, two pistol clips in their pockets and a pocketknife with a fork and knife. He added that in Prentic’s house a pistol had been found, while a pocketknife had been found in one of the brothers’ houses. Stating that the suspect had not resisted arrest, but had protested because the police officers had interrupted them while praying, Bijorac said that Hodzic had then said: “When our time comes we won’t point our weapons at you, we will shoot.” The witness dismissed Hodzic’s accusations that the police officers had provoked the accused, saying that his colleague Milorad Vejovic had informed him that one of the suspects, when asked to show his identity card, had said: “I am Bin Laden to you.” Another witness, Slavko Nedovic, a police officer from Sjenica, explained that a large amount of medical equipment, barrels with food and water, military equipment and munitions had been found in a tent in one of the Wahhabi camps on Ninaja. Police officer Zoran Pesic said that he had heard from one of his colleagues that a large amount of weapons, medical materials, topographic cards, binoculars and military equipment had also been found in another camp nearby that was appreciably bigger than the aforesaid one. The group of 15 Wahhabis are charged with terrorism and illegal possession of weapons and explosives. The trial continues tomorrow.
