The coalition of Presevo Valley Albanians has practically ceased to exist because the Albanian parties refuse to cooperate at these elections. As Democratic Union of the Presevo Valley (DUD) leader Skender Destani told Beta , “no agreement was reached with the Party for Democratic Action (PDD) about the formation of a coalition for joint participation at the next elections.” Valley Albanian coalition on brink of collapse “As far as we are concerned, we’ve drawn a line under participation in the coalition. The PDD, it seems, is more interested in building a coalition with other parties,” said Destani. The DUD leader said that his party would not be taking part at the elections because it “isn’t satisfied with the present work of the coalition and its representative in the Serbian parliament.” “The coalition’s only MP Riza Halimi didn’t keep us informed about what was happening in the parliament and what he was doing there. He only informed his own party,” said Destani. According to him, it was almost impossible to collect 10,000 signatures to register a new parliamentary list, so the Union had decided to start preparing for local elections. The PDD still intends to stand at the parliamentary elections, and the call to form a coalition with as large a number of Albanians parties as possible remains open for all who are interested, said PDD President Riza Halimi today. Asked whether he thought the 10,000 signatures would be collected in time, Halimi answered: “We are working on it, so we believe we will succeed.” He didn’t want to comment on Destani’s statements that he would not be standing this time round. Halimi said he still had not received official confirmation from the leader of the Hungarian coalition that they would be offering their help to the Albanian coalition in the south to collect the necessary signatures. “We talked about it, but I have not yet received any official information. That help would be welcome, of course,” the PDD president told the FoNet agency. He said that the coalition of Albanian parties and citizens’ groups would most probably consist of the PDD, the DUD, Skender Destani, Meidi Zeciri’s Democratic Union of Albanians (DUA), and a group of citizens including former members of Ragmi Mustafa's Democratic Party of Albanians (DPA). Halimi said that the PDD would also be inviting its members and sympathizers through local media to sign the list for the parliamentary elections in order to collect the necessary amount of signatures as fast as possible.
